Within the travel industry, Dean Forbes is best known as the
former CEO of KDS who led the Paris-based corporate travel technology company
from 2011 until its acquisition
in 2016 by American Express Global Business Travel.

But his list of accomplishments is much longer and
varied, including senior leadership roles at a number of international technology
companies, including Primavera Systems – which was acquired by Oracle – early
in his career and, more recently. at CoreHR, acquired by The Access Group.

Since early 2021, Forbes is CEO at Forterro, a provider of
software and consulting to mid-market manufacturing companies. He’s also
co-founder and chair of the Forbes Family Group, which provides investments,
mentorship and career development opportunities for marginalized individuals
and disenfranchised communities.

At Phocuswright Europe, Forbes describes key learnings from his
career journey and offers insights and advice for aspiring travel
entrepreneurs.

In a discussion with Phocuswright managing director Pete
Comeau, Forbes shares a “gut-wrenching moment” from early in his career and the
questions that still linger for him. Plus, he explains how he views diversity
through the lens of innovation.

“When we are trying to figure out what to do, I don’t want two
ideas, I want 20. And I want 20 different perspectives to run those ideas
through as a filter because that’s how you get the best one,” he says.

Forbes also provides his two top tips for tech leaders and
startup founders.
